Self-Awareness: The Story Beneath the Surface

“Where we are understood, we are home.” — John O’Donohue

We can read books, try to follow advice and make 'right' moves—and still feel stuck.
Why?
Because lasting change rarely starts with a checklist--it starts with a story.

Often, the story we’re living was written long ago—shaped by generations of experiences, fears, hopes, and unspoken rules we didn’t realize we agreed to. Without realizing it, we keep reenacting these patterns—quietly wondering why nothing changes.

That’s where self-awareness comes in.
And that’s where I come in.

The Work We’ll Do Together

I help people explore the stories shaping their lives—the ones they inherited, absorbed, or created to make sense of things.

Together, we’ll look at the beliefs and patterns behind your choices, the narratives you turn to in times of stress, and the quiet instincts you may have learned to ignore.

This isn’t about blame or judgment. It’s about gentle, honest inquiry—the kind that brings relief, clarity, and renewed connection to yourself.

What Is Self-Awareness, Really?

It’s not just noticing your thoughts.
It’s learning to listen—to your body, your emotions, your needs...the story you're telling.

True self-awareness means:

  • Recognizing the internal narrative guiding your choices

  • Understanding your emotional landscape

  • Noticing how you respond to conflict, closeness, and uncertainty

  • Exploring your needs, fears, boundaries, and longings

  • Naming what’s real, even when it’s messy or hard to admit

Self-awareness can be really difficult work, which is why so many of us shy away from knowing ourselves at core levels.  It's also the knowledge that sets us free.

Why It Matters

When you become aware of the stories you’re living, something shifts.

You begin to:

  • Respond rather than react

  • Set boundaries that are both kind and clear

  • Communicate with courage and compassion

  • Feel grounded—more at home in your own body and life

  • Make choices that reflect who you really are

Self-awareness is a powerful tool for emotional regulation, resilience, and freedom. It invites you to move through life—not on autopilot, but with intention.

What Coaching Looks Like

In our work together, you’ll be met with curiosity, warmth, and respect.
You’ll have space to:

  • Explore your personal story with compassion

  • Trace patterns back to their roots

  • Practice new ways of relating—to yourself and others

  • Build trust in your instincts and inner wisdom

  • Move from insight into integration

We’ll draw from narrative coaching, emotional intelligence, somatic practices, and reflection—always grounded in what’s real for you.

Guiding Questions We Might Explore

  • What story have I been living by—and is it still true?

  • Where am I overriding myself to keep the peace?

  • What happens when I feel vulnerable—and how do I usually respond?

  • What do I want—but don’t yet feel safe enough to say out loud?

  • What kind of relationship do I want to have with myself—especially when I’m in struggle?

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

Self-awareness isn’t something you have to figure out in isolation.  In fact, it’s nearly impossible to see our own blind spots without a mirror.

As your coach, I offer that mirror—with clarity, compassion, warmth and steady partnership.
Not to fix you.
But to help you remember the story beneath the noise—the one that’s truer, deeper, and waiting to be lived more fully.
